Predsjednik Demokratske Republike Kongo Felix Tshisekedi službeno je otvorio radove na gradnji 1,2 milijarde dolara vrijedne prve luke za velike brodove, koja bi trebala poboljšati veze vodećeg proizvođača kobalta sa svijetom.
Banana Port gradit će dubajski DP World, a graničit će s prirodnim rezervatom Mangrove, domom brojnih ranjivih ili ugroženih biljnih i životinjskih vrsta, pa je projekt već naišao na žestoke kritike ekoloških aktivista.
Luka u Banani, pješčanom sprudu na ušću rijeke Kongo, obrađivat će 322.000 kontejnera godišnje, napisao je kongoanski ministar industrije Julien Paluku na Twitteru, uz fotografiju Tshisekedija kako polaže kamen temeljac.
Ured predsjednika objavio je na Twitteru da Tshisekedi ostvaruje stari san Konga o luci za velike brodove na Atlantskom oceanu, koja bi trebala biti dovršena 2025. godine.
U prosincu DP World priopćio da će u prvoj fazi izgraditi 600 metara dug mol s dubinom mora od 18 metara, koji će biti dovršen za godinu dana.
More u glavnoj kongoanskoj luci u Matadiju, 120 kilometara sjeverno od Banane, nije dovoljno duboko da primi veća plovila iz Azije i Europe, pa se teret u susjednoj luci Pointe Noire mora prebaciti na manje brodove .
Platforma za zaštitu zviždača u Africi (PPLAAF) optužila je pak vladu da pregovara o gradnji bez zakonom propisanog javnog natječaja.
"Strateški važan projekt vrijedan više milijuna dolara planira se izgraditi u dijelu Demokratske Republike Kongo koji spada među ekološki najosjetljivija područja", rekao je upravitelj projektima u PPLAAF-u Gabriel Bourdon-Fattal.
"Nezamislivo je da predsjednik Tshisekedi krene u realizaciju projekta koji je smišljen u potpunoj tajnosti, unatoč pozivima civilnog društva na transparentan proces", dodao je.
Vladin glasnogovornik Patrick Muyaya nije odmah odgovorio na zahtjev za komentar.
Kongo je inače u fokusu pozornosti zbog bogatih nalazišta kobalta, važnog metala za proizvodnju magneta i električnih vozila. Proizvodi 70 posto svjetskog kobalta i sadrži polovinu rezervi tog metala.
Pozicija DRK toliko je dominantna da bi nastavak proizvodnje na sadašnjoj razini znatno otežao zelenu energetsku tranziciju jer ponuda ne bi pratila potražnju, naglasio je u izvješću objavljenom početkom prosinca Međunarodni monetarni fond (MMF).
Prema procjenama MMF-a, prijelaz na obnovljive izvore energije mogao u idućim desetljećima zahtijevati čak tri milijarde tona metala poput kobalta i litija.

Predsjednik Demokratske Republike Kongo Felix Tshisekedi službeno je otvorio radove na gradnji 1,2 milijarde dolara vrijedne prve luke za velike brodove, koja bi trebala poboljšati veze vodećeg proizvođača kobalta sa svijetom.
Banana Port gradit će dubajski DP World, a graničit će s prirodnim rezervatom Mangrove, domom brojnih ranjivih ili ugroženih biljnih i životinjskih vrsta, pa je projekt već naišao na žestoke kritike ekoloških aktivista.
Luka u Banani, pješčanom sprudu na ušću rijeke Kongo, obrađivat će 322.000 kontejnera godišnje, napisao je kongoanski ministar industrije Julien Paluku na Twitteru, uz fotografiju Tshisekedija kako polaže kamen temeljac.
Ured predsjednika objavio je na Twitteru da Tshisekedi ostvaruje stari san Konga o luci za velike brodove na Atlantskom oceanu, koja bi trebala biti dovršena 2025. godine.
U prosincu DP World priopćio da će u prvoj fazi izgraditi 600 metara dug mol s dubinom mora od 18 metara, koji će biti dovršen za godinu dana.
More u glavnoj kongoanskoj luci u Matadiju, 120 kilometara sjeverno od Banane, nije dovoljno duboko da primi veća plovila iz Azije i Europe, pa se teret u susjednoj luci Pointe Noire mora prebaciti na manje brodove .
Platforma za zaštitu zviždača u Africi (PPLAAF) optužila je pak vladu da pregovara o gradnji bez zakonom propisanog javnog natječaja.
"Strateški važan projekt vrijedan više milijuna dolara planira se izgraditi u dijelu Demokratske Republike Kongo koji spada među ekološki najosjetljivija područja", rekao je upravitelj projektima u PPLAAF-u Gabriel Bourdon-Fattal.
"Nezamislivo je da predsjednik Tshisekedi krene u realizaciju projekta koji je smišljen u potpunoj tajnosti, unatoč pozivima civilnog društva na transparentan proces", dodao je.
Vladin glasnogovornik Patrick Muyaya nije odmah odgovorio na zahtjev za komentar.
Kongo je inače u fokusu pozornosti zbog bogatih nalazišta kobalta, važnog metala za proizvodnju magneta i električnih vozila. Proizvodi 70 posto svjetskog kobalta i sadrži polovinu rezervi tog metala.
Pozicija DRK toliko je dominantna da bi nastavak proizvodnje na sadašnjoj razini znatno otežao zelenu energetsku tranziciju jer ponuda ne bi pratila potražnju, naglasio je u izvješću objavljenom početkom prosinca Međunarodni monetarni fond (MMF).
Prema procjenama MMF-a, prijelaz na obnovljive izvore energije mogao u idućim desetljećima zahtijevati čak tri milijarde tona metala poput kobalta i litija.
