Tom... kako ono? Ripley. Serija "Ripley" ima nekoliko ovakvih trenutaka gdje se propituje ime ili prezime glavnog lika. "Prezime? Ripley", čujemo u drugoj sceni. U trećoj sam Tom ističe da se njegovo prezime piše "R-I-P" ne "R-E-E". A u efektnoj završnici slušamo dijalog "Koji Tom? Tom Ripley. Slovkajte mi. R i p l e y".

Sve to se može razumjeti. "Ripley" je nova, serijska ekranizacija romana Patricije Highsmith iz 1955. godine koja je stigla na Netflix nakon što već gotovo 20 godina nismo gledali najpoznatijeg spisateljičinog lika.

Priču koju priča serija ispričali su "U zenitu sunca" Renea Clementa s Alainom Delonom iz 1960. i "Talentirani gospodin Ripley" Anthonyja Minghelle s Mattom Damonom iz 1999. kao defnitivna "ripleyjevska" ekranizacija, a lika su glumili i Dennis Hopper ("Američki prijatelj", 1977.), John Malkovich ("Ripleyjeva igra", 2002.) i Barry Pepper ("Ripley pod zemljom", 2005.).

Kreator serije Steven Zaillian, cijenjeni scenarist ("Nemoguća misija", "Hannibal", "Bande New Yorka", "Igra pobjednika", "Egzodus: Bogovi i kraljevi", "Irac") i osvajač Oscara za scenarij "Shindlerove liste", na taj način kao da podsjeća publiku na lik i njegovo (ne)djelo, a moguće i da završnim slovkanjem otvoreno izaziva Minghellin film za titulu definitivne ekranizacije.

No, Zaillian je svakako snimio drukčijeg Ripleyja od Minghelle (i Clementa) uz pomoć izvrsnog Andrewa Scotta u glavnoj ulozi i sjajne crno-bijele fotografije Roberta Elswita. Novi Ripley je već "iskusni" sociopat i prevarant, a ne mlađi čovjek koji to postaje kad ga bogataš Herbert Greenleaf angažira da pronađe njegova sina Dickieja u Italiji i vrti ga kući.

Druga epizoda od njih ukupno osam u prosječnom trajanju od 50-75 minuta vraća se u prošlost i pokazuje njegove laži i podmetanja u New Yorku prije nego što ode u Italiju po Dickieja (Johnny Flynn) na poziv gospodina Greenleafa (Kenneth Lonergan).

Iako Ripley u jednoj sceni kaže "nisam osoba koja iskorištava druge", on živi za to da laže, nadmudruje se s drugima, vara i krade, ne samo novac nego i tuđe identitete, tj. živote, a u tome mu nemalo pomaže i puka sreća, o čemu je Woody Allen snimio "Završni udarac". "Lažljivac je, to mu je posao", shvaća Dickiejeva djevojka Marge Sherwood (Dakota Fanning; nekoć Gwyneth Paltrow).

Već smo pisali da je Scott ("Fleabag, "Sherlock") trebao dobiti barem Oscar nominaciju, ako ne i Oscara, za emotivni, hipersenzibilni nastup u "Strancima", dok ovdje zaslužuje Emmy u krajnje suprotnoj izvedbi bešćutnog sociopatskog antagonista.

Izvedba ima nešto glumački metafilmsko u sebi poput uloge Ala Pacina u "Serpicu" u smislu da glumi da je netko tko nije/pretvara se u nekog drugog, Dickieja, uvjeravajući sve oko sebe da je ovaj živ, iako ga je brutalno zatukao veslom i poslao na dno mora u sceni prilično dostojnoj Minghelle, uz akcijsko-trilerski dodatak da propeler brodskog motora opasno prijeti proparati Tomovo tijelo kad se čamac otme kontroli.

Najvažniju ulogu u seriji iza Scotta obnaša Elswitt ("Magnolija") s nizom pamtljivih kadrova koji bi se dali uokviriti i staviti na zid, poput Caravaggiove slike "David s Golijatovom glavom" koja zrcali odnos između njih dvojice, veoma nalik onome Ripleyja i Dickieja.

Elswittova zavodljiva, hipnotična c/b fotografija nagoni gledatelja da se prepusti "Ripleyju" čak i kad se priča u srednjim epizodama počne tipično serijski usporavati i rastezati, premda ovdje to ima pokrića u detaljnoj karakternoj studiji glavnog lika. Fotografija pretvara "Ripleyja" u artistički film noir i ovo je najbolje ili najumjetničkije snimljena serija posljednjih godina, možda i uopće. Gospodin Ripley je još uvijek talentiran.

Tom... kako ono? Ripley. Serija "Ripley" ima nekoliko ovakvih trenutaka gdje se propituje ime ili prezime glavnog lika. "Prezime? Ripley", čujemo u drugoj sceni. U trećoj sam Tom ističe da se njegovo prezime piše "R-I-P" ne "R-E-E". A u efektnoj završnici slušamo dijalog "Koji Tom? Tom Ripley. Slovkajte mi. R i p l e y".

Sve to se može razumjeti. "Ripley" je nova, serijska ekranizacija romana Patricije Highsmith iz 1955. godine koja je stigla na Netflix nakon što već gotovo 20 godina nismo gledali najpoznatijeg spisateljičinog lika.

Priču koju priča serija ispričali su "U zenitu sunca" Renea Clementa s Alainom Delonom iz 1960. i "Talentirani gospodin Ripley" Anthonyja Minghelle s Mattom Damonom iz 1999. kao defnitivna "ripleyjevska" ekranizacija, a lika su glumili i Dennis Hopper ("Američki prijatelj", 1977.), John Malkovich ("Ripleyjeva igra", 2002.) i Barry Pepper ("Ripley pod zemljom", 2005.).

Kreator serije Steven Zaillian, cijenjeni scenarist ("Nemoguća misija", "Hannibal", "Bande New Yorka", "Igra pobjednika", "Egzodus: Bogovi i kraljevi", "Irac") i osvajač Oscara za scenarij "Shindlerove liste", na taj način kao da podsjeća publiku na lik i njegovo (ne)djelo, a moguće i da završnim slovkanjem otvoreno izaziva Minghellin film za titulu definitivne ekranizacije.

No, Zaillian je svakako snimio drukčijeg Ripleyja od Minghelle (i Clementa) uz pomoć izvrsnog Andrewa Scotta u glavnoj ulozi i sjajne crno-bijele fotografije Roberta Elswita. Novi Ripley je već "iskusni" sociopat i prevarant, a ne mlađi čovjek koji to postaje kad ga bogataš Herbert Greenleaf angažira da pronađe njegova sina Dickieja u Italiji i vrti ga kući.

Druga epizoda od njih ukupno osam u prosječnom trajanju od 50-75 minuta vraća se u prošlost i pokazuje njegove laži i podmetanja u New Yorku prije nego što ode u Italiju po Dickieja (Johnny Flynn) na poziv gospodina Greenleafa (Kenneth Lonergan).

Iako Ripley u jednoj sceni kaže "nisam osoba koja iskorištava druge", on živi za to da laže, nadmudruje se s drugima, vara i krade, ne samo novac nego i tuđe identitete, tj. živote, a u tome mu nemalo pomaže i puka sreća, o čemu je Woody Allen snimio "Završni udarac". "Lažljivac je, to mu je posao", shvaća Dickiejeva djevojka Marge Sherwood (Dakota Fanning; nekoć Gwyneth Paltrow).

Već smo pisali da je Scott ("Fleabag, "Sherlock") trebao dobiti barem Oscar nominaciju, ako ne i Oscara, za emotivni, hipersenzibilni nastup u "Strancima", dok ovdje zaslužuje Emmy u krajnje suprotnoj izvedbi bešćutnog sociopatskog antagonista.

Izvedba ima nešto glumački metafilmsko u sebi poput uloge Ala Pacina u "Serpicu" u smislu da glumi da je netko tko nije/pretvara se u nekog drugog, Dickieja, uvjeravajući sve oko sebe da je ovaj živ, iako ga je brutalno zatukao veslom i poslao na dno mora u sceni prilično dostojnoj Minghelle, uz akcijsko-trilerski dodatak da propeler brodskog motora opasno prijeti proparati Tomovo tijelo kad se čamac otme kontroli.

Najvažniju ulogu u seriji iza Scotta obnaša Elswitt ("Magnolija") s nizom pamtljivih kadrova koji bi se dali uokviriti i staviti na zid, poput Caravaggiove slike "David s Golijatovom glavom" koja zrcali odnos između njih dvojice, veoma nalik onome Ripleyja i Dickieja.

Elswittova zavodljiva, hipnotična c/b fotografija nagoni gledatelja da se prepusti "Ripleyju" čak i kad se priča u srednjim epizodama počne tipično serijski usporavati i rastezati, premda ovdje to ima pokrića u detaljnoj karakternoj studiji glavnog lika. Fotografija pretvara "Ripleyja" u artistički film noir i ovo je najbolje ili najumjetničkije snimljena serija posljednjih godina, možda i uopće. Gospodin Ripley je još uvijek talentiran.
