Nakon posrtaja s “Režimom”, koji nije ispunio prevelika očekivanja od potentnog prospekta “Kate Winslet + HBO” (“Mare iz Easttowna”), HBO Max se vraća u formu serijom “Simpatizer”/”The Sympathizer”. Snimljena prema istoimenom Pulitzerom nagrađenom romanu Vieta Thanha Nguyena iz 2015., serija bi se lako mogla naći pri vrhu godišnjih serijskih “best of” listi.
Vijetnamska veza
“Simpatizer” je prestižna televizija u punom smislu te riječi. Kokreator serije, ujedno i redatelj, jest južnokorejski majstor Park Chan-wook (čuvena osvetnička trilogija s početka novog milenija “Simpatija za gospodina Osvetu”, “Oldboy”, “Simpatija za gđu Osvetu”) koji je posljednjih godina održao vitalnost (“Sluškinja”, “Dvostruka prijevara”).
Park je u Americi debitirao s “Tajnom krvi”/”Stoker” s Mijom Wasikowskom i Nicole Kidman , a u svijetu moderne televizije s “Malom bubnjaricom” prema romanu Johna LeCarrea , angažiravši buduću zvijezdu Florence Pugh u glavnoj ulozi. Ključnu ulogu u seriji tumači preporođeni Robert Downey Jr. , pardon uloge.

Zvjezdani glumac Marvelovih blockbustera “Iron Man” i “Osvetnici” proživljava novu glumačku mladost nakon “Oppenheimera”, za koji je osvojio Oscara, a njegov je angažman presudan u smislu friškog oskarovskog prestiža, pa i metafilmski. Naime, serija se špijunski i satirički bavi Vijetnamskim ratom i njegovim reperkusijama, a Downey je 1990. i 2008. glumio u akcijsko-komičnim satirama “Air America” i “Tropska grmljavina”, usko vezanim uz Vijetnam.
Iako je Downeyjev nastup razmetljiv, njegova “vijetnamska veza” čini seriju intrigantnijom na “meta” razini. Vijetnam se nadvija nad serijom odmah od uvodne špice. “U Americi ga zovu Vijetnamski rat. U Vijetnamu ga zovu Američki rat. Bio je to rat između Sjevera, predvođenog komunistima koji su porazili francuske kolonizatore, te Juga koji podupiru Amerikanci, nasljednici Francuza.
Rat na bojištu i u sjećanju
Svi se ratovi vode dvaput, prvi put na bojištu, drugi u sjećanju”, ističe natpis u uvodu. “The Sympathizer” počinje u zadnjim danima pred pad Sajgona i fokusiran je na francusko-vijetnamskog komunističkog špijuna znanog kao Kapetan (dobri Hoa Xuande ; “Cowboy Bebop”) i razapetog između svog zapovjednika (General; Toan Lee ) i CIA-e (Downey Jr.) nakon što prebjegne u Los Angeles.

Unatoč tome što se mnoštvo filmova bavilo Vijetnamom (“Lovac na jelene”, “Apokalipsa danas”, “Rambo I&II”, “Vod smrti”, “Full Metal Jacket”...), a pad Sajgona je viđen i u “Nestalima u akciji III”, serija uspijeva biti svježa. Ustvari, opsesija Vijetnamskim ratom i njegovim nasljeđem najviše od strane Amerike, ali i ostatka svijeta, naročito ona hollywoodska, tj. filmska, pokretač je serije.
Tome Park pristupa iz satiričke, crnohumorne i djelomično apsurdističke perspektive, prelamajući politiku i “entertainment”. Sjetimo li se njegovih prijašnjih projekata, najviše “Oldboya”, Park je uvijek imao osjećaj za crni humor i apsurd, gorki (o)smijeh, čak i u crvenim (krvavim) scenama, poput “čekićanja” u koridoru. Svega toga ima i u Parkovu “Simpatizeru”, prema kojemu je lako gajiti simpatije.

Nakon posrtaja s “Režimom”, koji nije ispunio prevelika očekivanja od potentnog prospekta “Kate Winslet + HBO” (“Mare iz Easttowna”), HBO Max se vraća u formu serijom “Simpatizer”/”The Sympathizer”. Snimljena prema istoimenom Pulitzerom nagrađenom romanu Vieta Thanha Nguyena iz 2015., serija bi se lako mogla naći pri vrhu godišnjih serijskih “best of” listi.
Vijetnamska veza
“Simpatizer” je prestižna televizija u punom smislu te riječi. Kokreator serije, ujedno i redatelj, jest južnokorejski majstor Park Chan-wook (čuvena osvetnička trilogija s početka novog milenija “Simpatija za gospodina Osvetu”, “Oldboy”, “Simpatija za gđu Osvetu”) koji je posljednjih godina održao vitalnost (“Sluškinja”, “Dvostruka prijevara”).
Park je u Americi debitirao s “Tajnom krvi”/”Stoker” s Mijom Wasikowskom i Nicole Kidman , a u svijetu moderne televizije s “Malom bubnjaricom” prema romanu Johna LeCarrea , angažiravši buduću zvijezdu Florence Pugh u glavnoj ulozi. Ključnu ulogu u seriji tumači preporođeni Robert Downey Jr. , pardon uloge.

Zvjezdani glumac Marvelovih blockbustera “Iron Man” i “Osvetnici” proživljava novu glumačku mladost nakon “Oppenheimera”, za koji je osvojio Oscara, a njegov je angažman presudan u smislu friškog oskarovskog prestiža, pa i metafilmski. Naime, serija se špijunski i satirički bavi Vijetnamskim ratom i njegovim reperkusijama, a Downey je 1990. i 2008. glumio u akcijsko-komičnim satirama “Air America” i “Tropska grmljavina”, usko vezanim uz Vijetnam.
Iako je Downeyjev nastup razmetljiv, njegova “vijetnamska veza” čini seriju intrigantnijom na “meta” razini. Vijetnam se nadvija nad serijom odmah od uvodne špice. “U Americi ga zovu Vijetnamski rat. U Vijetnamu ga zovu Američki rat. Bio je to rat između Sjevera, predvođenog komunistima koji su porazili francuske kolonizatore, te Juga koji podupiru Amerikanci, nasljednici Francuza.

Svi se ratovi vode dvaput, prvi put na bojištu, drugi u sjećanju”, ističe natpis u uvodu. “The Sympathizer” počinje u zadnjim danima pred pad Sajgona i fokusiran je na francusko-vijetnamskog komunističkog špijuna znanog kao Kapetan (dobri Hoa Xuande ; “Cowboy Bebop”) i razapetog između svog zapovjednika (General; Toan Lee ) i CIA-e (Downey Jr.) nakon što prebjegne u Los Angeles.

Unatoč tome što se mnoštvo filmova bavilo Vijetnamom (“Lovac na jelene”, “Apokalipsa danas”, “Rambo I&II”, “Vod smrti”, “Full Metal Jacket”...), a pad Sajgona je viđen i u “Nestalima u akciji III”, serija uspijeva biti svježa. Ustvari, opsesija Vijetnamskim ratom i njegovim nasljeđem najviše od strane Amerike, ali i ostatka svijeta, naročito ona hollywoodska, tj. filmska, pokretač je serije.
Tome Park pristupa iz satiričke, crnohumorne i djelomično apsurdističke perspektive, prelamajući politiku i “entertainment”. Sjetimo li se njegovih prijašnjih projekata, najviše “Oldboya”, Park je uvijek imao osjećaj za crni humor i apsurd, gorki (o)smijeh, čak i u crvenim (krvavim) scenama, poput “čekićanja” u koridoru.
