Nakon što je četvrtim mjestom u finalu vježbe na parteru na natjecanju Svjetskog kupa u Dohi Aurel Benović postao četvrti hrvatski gimnastičar koji je izborio nastup na Olimpijskim igrama, mladi je Osječanin očekivano bio presretan svojim ostvarenjem.

"Ponosan sam kako sam odradio vježbu, izdržao sam pritisak i kada je bilo najbitnije uspio sam odraditi svoju vježbu solidno i izboriti odlazak na Olimpijske igre, zbog toga sam stvarno jako ponosan. Još ne mogu vjerovati, moram to sve malo prespavati da bih postao svjestan uopće što se dogodilo. Ne smije me previše držati euforija, moram se okrenuti sutrašnjem finalu na preskoku i nadam se da uz malo sportske sreće mogu odraditi dobro oba skoka i biti u borbi za medalju", kazao je Benović.

Mukotrpan rad na treninzima, brojna odricanja, sve se isplatilo. I trener Vladimir Mađarević nije skrivao oduševljenje. 

"Presretan sam, startna ocjena današnje vježbe bila je 6.3, tu težinu vježbe uspjeli smo vratiti u drugom dijelu etapa svjetskih kupova, nakon ozljede koju je Aurel imao u kolovozu prošle godine. Ovo je veliki podvig obzirom na frakturu metatarzalne kosti koju je pretrpio  na elementu dupli grčeni salto s dva okreta, na duploj Tsukahari. Sada je taj element ponovo vratio u svoju vježbu, i jako smo zadovoljni zbog toga. Pod velikim pritiskom vježbu je napravio sasvim dobro, 14.300 je solidna ocjena za njega na parteru, no postoji još prostor gdje se mogu doskoci bolje ukopavati te uštedjeti još nekoliko desetinki, čemu se i nadamo. U konačnici to bi značilo ocjene preko 14.500 koje su uvijek konkurentne za medalje na svim velikim natjecanjima. Aurel to sigurno može, pod ovim velikim pritiskom bilo je vrlo važno odraditi vježbu na ovom nivou na kojem je uspio. Konkurencija Francuz Osberger i Brazilac Guimaraes nisu izdržali pritisak, oni su napravili puno više grešaka nego Aurel i završili iza njega i s manje bodova u olimpijskim kvalifikacijama", izjavio je Mađarević.

U finalu Dohe Benovićev glavni konkurent u borbi za nastup na Olimpijskim igrama bio je Francuz Benjamin Osberger. I Brazilac Yuri Guimaraes tražio je svoju priliku. Osberger je nastupao prije Benovića i nije dobio previsoku ocjenu - 13.733. Nakon toga bilo je jasno - Benović se bori sam protiv sebe. Pritisak je rastao, Osječanin je morao odraditi jednu svoju prosječnu vježbu na razini nastupa iz kvalifikacija. Izdržao je sve, i prije ocjene sudaca bilo je jasno. Stigla je i službena potvrda 14.333, četvrto mjesto.

Kao i u kvalifikacijama, najbolji u finalu partera bio je Kazahstanac Milad Karimi koji je dobio ocjenu 14.766. Dvije desetinke slabiji bio je Britanac Luke Whitehouse. Treći je završio još jedan Kazahstanac, Dmitrij Patatin. 

Aurel Benović četvrti je hrvatski gimnastičar koji će nastupiti na olimpijskim igrama. Prvi koji je predstavljao Hrvatsku na olimpijskoj smotri bio je Aleksej Demjanov 1996. u Atalanti. Filip Ude bio je na Igrama tri puta: 2008. u Pekingu, 2012. u Londonu i 2016. u Rio de Janeiru. Tin Srbić nastupio je u Tokiju prije tri godine, a Srbić će putovati i u Pariz. U povijesti su na olimpijskim igrama sudjelovale i dvije hrvatske gimnastičarke. Po dvaput su nastupile Splićanke Tina Erceg i Ana Đerek.

Nakon što je četvrtim mjestom u finalu vježbe na parteru na natjecanju Svjetskog kupa u Dohi Aurel Benović postao četvrti hrvatski gimnastičar koji je izborio nastup na Olimpijskim igrama, mladi je Osječanin očekivano bio presretan svojim ostvarenjem.

"Ponosan sam kako sam odradio vježbu, izdržao sam pritisak i kada je bilo najbitnije uspio sam odraditi svoju vježbu solidno i izboriti odlazak na Olimpijske igre, zbog toga sam stvarno jako ponosan. Još ne mogu vjerovati, moram to sve malo prespavati da bih postao svjestan uopće što se dogodilo. Ne smije me previše držati euforija, moram se okrenuti sutrašnjem finalu na preskoku i nadam se da uz malo sportske sreće mogu odraditi dobro oba skoka i biti u borbi za medalju", kazao je Benović.

Mukotrpan rad na treninzima, brojna odricanja, sve se isplatilo. I trener Vladimir Mađarević nije skrivao oduševljenje. 

"Presretan sam, startna ocjena današnje vježbe bila je 6.3, tu težinu vježbe uspjeli smo vratiti u drugom dijelu etapa svjetskih kupova, nakon ozljede koju je Aurel imao u kolovozu prošle godine. Ovo je veliki podvig obzirom na frakturu metatarzalne kosti koju je pretrpio  na elementu dupli grčeni salto s dva okreta, na duploj Tsukahari. Sada je taj element ponovo vratio u svoju vježbu, i jako smo zadovoljni zbog toga. Pod velikim pritiskom vježbu je napravio sasvim dobro, 14.300 je solidna ocjena za njega na parteru, no postoji još prostor gdje se mogu doskoci bolje ukopavati te uštedjeti još nekoliko desetinki, čemu se i nadamo. U konačnici to bi značilo ocjene preko 14.500 koje su uvijek konkurentne za medalje na svim velikim natjecanjima. Aurel to sigurno može, pod ovim velikim pritiskom bilo je vrlo važno odraditi vježbu na ovom nivou na kojem je uspio. Konkurencija Francuz Osberger i Brazilac Guimaraes nisu izdržali pritisak, oni su napravili puno više grešaka nego Aurel i završili iza njega i s manje bodova u olimpijskim kvalifikacijama", izjavio je Mađarević.

U finalu Dohe Benovićev glavni konkurent u borbi za nastup na Olimpijskim igrama bio je Francuz Benjamin Osberger. I Brazilac Yuri Guimaraes tražio je svoju priliku. Osberger je nastupao prije Benovića i nije dobio previsoku ocjenu - 13.733. Nakon toga bilo je jasno - Benović se bori sam protiv sebe. Pritisak je rastao, Osječanin je morao odraditi jednu svoju prosječnu vježbu na razini nastupa iz kvalifikacija. Izdržao je sve, i prije ocjene sudaca bilo je jasno. Stigla je i službena potvrda 14.333, četvrto mjesto.

Kao i u kvalifikacijama, najbolji u finalu partera bio je Kazahstanac Milad Karimi koji je dobio ocjenu 14.766. Dvije desetinke slabiji bio je Britanac Luke Whitehouse. Treći je završio još jedan Kazahstanac, Dmitrij Patatin. 

Aurel Benović četvrti je hrvatski gimnastičar koji će nastupiti na olimpijskim igrama. Prvi koji je predstavljao Hrvatsku na olimpijskoj smotri bio je Aleksej Demjanov 1996. u Atalanti. Filip Ude bio je na Igrama tri puta: 2008. u Pekingu, 2012. u Londonu i 2016. u Rio de Janeiru. Tin Srbić nastupio je u Tokiju prije tri godine, a Srbić će putovati i u Pariz. U povijesti su na olimpijskim igrama sudjelovale i dvije hrvatske gimnastičarke. Po dvaput su nastupile Splićanke Tina Erceg i Ana Đerek.

Nakon što je četvrtim mjestom u finalu vježbe na parteru na natjecanju Svjetskog kupa u Dohi Aurel Benović postao četvrti hrvatski gimnastičar koji je izborio nastup na Olimpijskim igrama, mladi je Osječanin očekivano bio presretan svojim ostvarenjem.

"Ponosan sam kako sam odradio vježbu, izdržao sam pritisak i kada je bilo najbitnije uspio sam odraditi svoju vježbu solidno i izboriti odlazak na Olimpijske igre, zbog toga sam stvarno jako ponosan. Još ne mogu vjerovati, moram to sve malo prespavati da bih postao svjestan uopće što se dogodilo.
